The following list of 12 Easy Ways to Make Money Now is by no way a comprehensive one, but it is a great place to start. Try a few, try them all. Just be sure to keep an open mind and you’ll be sure to make lots of money.
1. Start with Your Current Job.
Maybe your brief financial mishap is due mostly to the fact that you haven’t had a raise in three years. If it’s that time and you deserve a raise, ask for one! As Wayne Gretzky says, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” How true this is! You’ll never know if you don’t ask. Even if they say no, ask for more hours. More hours will equate to more money and possibly more credibility within your company
2. Sell Stuff
One of the fastest ways to make money is to sell something. Are you good at arts & crafts or at making things? Open an Etsy store. Do you have a lot of random collectibles? Sell them on Craigslist or eBay. Do you have extra scraps from a DIY project gone wrong, build with them! Heck, I’ve built pieces of furniture before and sold it on Craigslist. Rack your brain. How can those two hands of yours make something to sell?
3. Garage Sail
Senior year of high school my best friend and I would go what we called “garage sailing” every Saturday. We would go bargain hunt local garage sales in the hopes of finding treasure. We would find antiques or heavily discounted items and post them for sale on Craigslist and eBay for a profit.
4. Be a Landlord
With new sites like Airbnb, it’s easier than ever to rent out a room. A good friend of mine bought a three-bedroom house a few years ago. He lives in one, rents out a room to someone month to month, and rents out the third a few days a month on Airbnb. His two tenants are literally paying down his mortgage while he lives almost rent free. Sounds like a sweet deal to me!
5. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Rot
This doesn’t just apply to the environment. It applies to money too! Reduce your debt & consumption (save money), reuse instead of buy new, and as it relates to this post: Recycle! There are a few states that will pay you 5-10 cents a can to recycle. If you live in or close to one of those states, start collecting cans. If I had a dime for every time someone told me to recycle… oh wait, now I do!
6. Just Sit!
Babysit, house sit, pet sit, car sit, just sit. Family of mine runs a pet sitting side business. What started out as $25 to watch their neighbor’s dog one weekend turned into a full-fledged home business sitting for 4-5 dogs a month. If you’re an animal lover, this has your name written all over it.
7. Shop Until You Drop
Mystery (secret) shop, or ghost shop. There are several sites that will offer you money to shop for them, and I wrote a whole post on how here. I’ve personally used MarketForce, BestMark, Intellishop, and SecretShopper. All of them are reputable and I’ve received checks from each one of them. All you have to do is sign up, pick shops in your area and the time you want to do them, and they tell you the rest. They tell you what to buy, how to pay, etc. and then you get a check in the mail, deposited into your PayPal or checking account. Making money from shopping may sound like an oxymoron, but I promise it’s not!
8. Work the Polls
Not that pole! Every state election is run with thousands upon thousands of volunteers and these poll workers make anywhere from $15 to be on standby to $200+ in one day. If you host a site in your garage, you get paid even more. This may not be an everyday event, but the paid positions are there for more than the Presidential Election. General Elections, Primaries, and other special elections all need poll workers to be successful and states will pay good money for one day’s work.
9. Use Your Mad Skillz
Sites like Fiverr and Upwork make it easy in today’s marketplace to monetize your personal skills. In five short minutes, you can create your gig and start selling whatever it is you do best. From design to research, Fiverr has something for everyone.
10. Scalp Tickets
What started as me needing to sell a few games from my season hockey tickets (because I couldn’t afford them) turned into a mini-business for me. I now sell about half of my season tickets and the proceeds I make from the sales pay for me to go to the other half of the game. Not a bad gig for the sports fan out there.
11. There’s (maybe not) an App for That
Believe it or not, sometimes there’s not yet an app for that. Your idea could be the next Instagram or Candy Crush. If you have an idea or the skill set, use it to build an app.
12. Uber, Lyft, & Door Dash
It’s almost scary how quick you can sign up to drive for Uber or Lyft. Fares are automatically deposited weekly and the prime money making time is outside of your 9-5 day job. If you enjoy driving and meeting new people. If you don’t mind your car having the smell of delicious food, Door Dash is hiring drivers as well. Cruise on over to sign up!!
As with all of my advice, pick a few of these 12 Easy Ways to Make Money Now that you can easily implement and add in others as you’re able. The best money making attitude is, “every little bit helps!”
